The U.S. Gambling Regulation: a bit of history

Gambling is not a new thing. People, round the world, have been playing it either as a mean of entertainment or out of a lure to 'hit the jackpot'. The trait has seen an explosion since after the inception of www in 1990s. As most of these online gaming companies were out of USA, the outflow of the currency raised concerns of U S. Congress and it started to exercise control on its proliferation in 1995.

The first online gambling site from US was not there until 1995 and in just two years it was approx $300m industry with 32 online casino sites. In 1997, U. S. Senate passed a Internet Gambling Prohibition Act. This Act meant not to declare online gambling illegal in USA but was aimed at blocking gambling transactions or money drain. The result of this Act was mixed, though. Some of the online casinos and poker rooms had completely stopped accepting online bets and some rose restrictions on players from certain states. But there were some who took no action at all and kept the show going as usual.

The Greenbriar, in West Virginia, is considered a private casino and has certain barriers to the public playing there unless they are paying to do something else at the resort, or are attending a conference, wedding or something along those lines.Private clubs, charities and non-profit organizations are even permitted to offer limited as long as they cut the state in on 40% of the revenues. There are some states (looking at you, and —and others) who tax their actual casinos more than that! This is slightly more restrictive than Nevada, a state in which a casino can be theoretically licensed in any location not prohibited by a municipality, but Delaware is geographically fairly small and could arguably not sustain many more than three casinos full-on casinos. /delaware-casinos-launch-free-online-gaming.html. With respect to West Virginia, two casinos are tied to horse racing tracks whilst two others are tied to greyhound tracks. In the case of all three Delaware casinos, they are tied to a horse racing track. There is also significant Regional competition in,.

Despite all strict regulations the business is thriving very much. Today, there are as many as 2,000 online gambling sites in USA running different types of betting options viz. sports betting, casino games, bingo and online lotteries. In 2005, US was earning $5.9 billion in revenue from internet gambling sites. Total 23 million people had gambled on these sites and 8 million of them were from US only.

Concerned about control over online gambling, and with the intention to prohibit unlawful funding, the US Legislation has enforced UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) on 13th of October 2006. The Rule affected the businesses who were accepting credit cards, electronic fund transfers, checks from bettors for unlawful internet gambling. Consequently, many of banks have prohibited the use of their credit and debit cards for gambling purpose like BoA, Fleet, MBNA, Chase Manhattan and City. Many fund transfer services like FirePay, Neteller and Moneybookers have ceased their services for US nationals and accept payment by check and wire transfer only.

There were much apprehensions and confusions regarding gambling operations in US, until April 2007, when government issued a framework for licensed gambling in the Untied States. However, most of these gambling companies are operating from offshore locations now, where they are legal, while most of, as much as 60 percent, of their revenue is coming from Americans only.

However, amidst all this confusion, there are some states in US which allow some gambling and casinos as a legal industry. There are over 500 casinos in 28 states.

Today, the law is taking the path of legalization more and more and the future of gaming in US, is considered an asset to increase the local economy and the tourism.

Eight Exciting Land-Based Casinos in the U.S.

Land-based casinos in the United States make great vacation destinations. Most states offer gambling opportunities through corporate and/or tribal casinos, but some of these facilities are more special than others. Here are eight of the most exciting land-based casinos in the United States:

Wynn Las Vegas

Wynn Las Vegas is the brainchild of casino mogul Steve Wynn. Erected in 2005, the slick building which beckons visitors from across the globe inhabits the space where the world-famous Desert Inn once stood. Wynn Las Vegas features 50 stories of luxury hotel rooms, 100,000 square feet of gambling space, and a convention center twice that size. Visitors can dine at any of 22 high quality restaurants, golf an 18-hole course, peruse an in-house Maserati dealership, take in astounding nightly performances, and much more.

The Bellagio in Las Vegas

Online

The Bellagio, conceived by Steve Wynn in the early 90s, touts itself as the most luxurious casino/hotel in Las Vegas, and for good reason: Whether guests elect to stay in a hotel room, suite, villa, or executive suite lounge, AAA Five Diamond quality abounds in this high class facility. Owned by MGM resorts, the Bellagio's magnificent design was inspired by a lakeside Italian city of the same name. The Bellagio's elegant grounds have come to symbolize Las Vegas, serving as the set for popular films like “Ocean's Eleven,” “What Happens in Vegas,” and “2012.” Tourists on the Strip enjoy a daily dancing fountain/light show over an 8-acre lake created to replicate Italy's Lake Como.

MGM Grand in Las Vegas

MGM Grand Las Vegas boasts itself to be an “entertainment authority,” offering permanent attractions like Cirque du Soleil and Brad Garrett's Comedy Club as well as legendary acts like David Copperfield, Jimmy Buffett, and Justin Timberlake. Gamblers enjoy a 5,300 square-foot sports betting arena, thousands of electronic games, and an endless array of table games. One of the largest hotels in the U.S., the MGM Grand offers guests the opportunity to commune with nature with its rivers and waterfalls, as well as five pools and three whirlpools for luxurious bathing.

Caesars Palace in Las Vegas

Situated down the street from Wynn Las Vegas is Caesars Palace, a 1960s-built Sin City icon. Famous for its Roman Empire theme, the Palace offers a gorgeous gambling venue with antiquated art, archaic sculpture, and a vast array of table games and slot machines. Sun bathers enjoy the Palace's “Garden of the Gods Pool Oasis,” a sparkling collection of swimming pools surrounded by gorgeous Roman architecture. Grammy winner Celine Dion continues her reign as queen musician at the Colloseum, the resort's famous entertainment venue, where she delivers smash headliner concerts on a nightly basis. The Palace is a feast for the senses and an iconic American experience for all who visit it.

The Golden Nugget in Downtown Las Vegas

The Golden Nugget in Las Vegas is one of Sin City's oldest casinos, as well as the area's largest downtown casino. The 1946-built facility earned a name for itself by appearing in numerous gambling based films, TV shows, and video games during its 67-year career thus far. Gamblers enjoy all the games and amenities offered at standard casinos, as well as some not-so-standard features like a shark tank with live tours and a view of the world's largest real gold nugget, the “Hand of Faith,” which is currently on display at the facility.

Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City

Atlantic City's Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa prides itself on being a destination location parallel to those found in Las Vegas and New York City. The modern casino/hotel/spa structure was built to lure high rollers back to New Jersey, and it has accomplished its mission. The 2,000 room facility, which features 250 table games and nearly 3,500 slot machines, has been filled nearly to capacity since its opening in 2003. The 2,400-seat Borgata Event Center hosts headline concerts featuring esteemed performers like Kelly Clarkson, Aerosmith, and Sting. Vice President of Operations Joe Lupo has said he takes pride in the Borgata's “inventive and forward thinking” initiatives, including its recent introduction of a $1 million table game progressive jackpot.

Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City

Donald Trump's 2,000-room hotel casino is, like Trump himself, the epitome of luxury and excess. The ocean-side facility treats guests to majestic views, fantastic service, and a rich gambling experience. Stone sculptures and elegant décor welcome patrons into Trump's gambling world, where an extravagantly good time is sure to be had by all. Patrons appreciate the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, as it brings to light the real-world financial tycoon, Donald Trump, with all his bells and whistles.

Foxwoods in Connecticut

Although Las Vegas and Atlantic City maintain their monopoly on United States casino business, the largest North American casino resides in Connecticut. Patrons at Foxwoods can play at any of six different casinos on the sprawling Native American property, choose from four AAA hotels, and dine at a variety of restaurants on the campus. In addition, guests enjoy a bevy of entertainment choices, shopping, and golf. Foxwoods is operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, a native Connecticut tribe which makes a habit of sharing profits with its community.
